    Pre-Separation Air Filtration System
This time-saving technology boosts the efficiency of the engine’s filter system, doubling the time between air filter cleanings. Air drawn into the engine is first separated via centrifugal force, ejecting the heavier dirt particles before being routed to the air filter. This pre-separation means less dirt to be captured by the air filter, resulting in less frequent cleaning and maintenance.

Important Information
WARNING! The occurrence called “kickback” can cause serious or fatal injury. Always read the instruction manual carefully before using your saw. STIHL uses a green and yellow color-coding system to help you select a powerhead, bar and chain combination that complies with the kickback requirements of ANSI Standard B175.1 (gasoline-powered saws) and §30 of UL 1662/ ANSI Standard B175.1 (electric chainsaws). Ask your STIHL dealer about safe operating procedures and the advantages of the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake, STIHL Quickstop® Plus (Q) additional chain braking feature, STIHL reduced kickback bars and STIHL low-kickback saw chains.

STIHL recommends the use of green reduced kickback bars and green low kickback chains on all STIHL chainsaws.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Starts well, runs strong, easy on fuel I started well out of the box, and I went easy on it during break-in. Really digs in on wet or dry wood, The green chain don't cut too well, but the yellow ones work great. I like the chain adjuster, too. Not happy that the saw requires only Stihl chains and I can't use my old chains or bars, which I have in abundance. Not too light for the power. Stays surprisingly clean after use. i can curt a whole truckload of wood and it's barely dirty, even when used on wet wood. September 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Powerful, lightweight and a a great value We recently purchased a property that is heavily wooded and needed to clear a large number of "volunteers" from around the cottage home... this saw is a delight to use. Its lightweight, powerful and a great value. Very well engineered! September 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Nice Upgrade The only reason I bought a new MS271 was because my trusty Stihl 025 was stolen out the back of my truck; it was an awesome little saw that served me well for 21 years, and never needed any major repairs. I chose the MS271 because of its bigger motor (50cc vs. 44cc), and ability to run a 20" bar. There are some nice upgrades over my old 025, like the air filter; its much bigger. The tool-less oil and fuel caps are nice. It fires right up and tears through everything I've found, pretty effortlessly, too. It seems to use less fuel and bar oil than the 025 did, which isn't a bad thing at all. The only grumble I have is the weight: at 12 lbs, it's 2 lbs. heavier than the 025 (or the MS250, which has replaced the 025) and it is noticeable. As a slightly out-of-shape 55 year old, I'm already getting lazy; hefting this saw all day does get tiring. But if this MS271 continues to perform like my old Stihl did, it may be the last saw I purchase. September 24, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Light, powerfull and reliable. Wood is our only source of heat. I need reliability. Stihl delivers. September 23, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I can't believe the difference in The Stihl and the other saws I own 10X better I never thought there would be this much difference in chainsaws. I have two other saws by different manufactures my 16" actually work real well but it was no longer made since 2006 it started good but can't get parts like a air cleaner etc. My 18" another manufacture is very temperamental hard to start runs for awhile and quits. It has to sit for 20 to 30 minutes in the shade to restart. And it bogs down even on small logs. Since we are using wood to heat now. When I go up to the mountains to cut large trees my saws wouldn't cut it. My buddy that lets me cut on his land has a Stihl Farm Boss and he would have to get it out so I could load my large gooseneck trailer. I bought this and cut up two loads of logs which average 20 to 25 feet long and the saw starts easy cuts like I'm cutting butter no bogging down and very comfortable to use. I have had 3 back operations 2 of them fusions, so I know what feels good. The MS271 Farm Boss Stihl 20" is worth every penny it costs. Don't waste your money on anything less than a Stihl. Rated 5 out of 5 by Strong and dependable Great saw. Cuts like butter and very dependable would recommend to friends and family September 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Farm Boss knocks it out of the park.. I would like to first of all recommend to read the manual before operation. I cannot stress enough to read the MANUAL...Had a dead line to move trees for a container being shipped. The first day one old saw and a small 009L Stihl. Well I got worked to death on the old saw until I grabbed the 009. Already worn out and cutting trees. Decided to contact local Stihl dealer. Only one open on Sunday was Fishers in LaPorte. Read all the specs and looked hard at the Farm Boss. Purchased the Farm Boss and got to the site and had severe issues starting. OK now read the starting instructions. These units flood easy. Talk about a beast cutting trees. Cut 4 trees in 2 hours and one had a nail in the tree. Not so worn out. As being a mechanic for 30 years you use the right tool for the job.. The Farm Boss is the right tool. September 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Reliable tool that never dissapoints This is the third Farm Boss that I have bought. The first one got borrowed and never returned. The second was stolen out of my work shed. I quickly replaced this saw. We are into hurricane season here in SC.I use this saw mainly at our 2500 acre hunt club. it has taken care of storm damage and fire wood.If you follow the correct starting procedures, it will start right up. It has plenty of power to tackle anything . September 19, 2016
